*sigh* You think he would have learned his lesson the first time! Hang on, was it fraud the first time or just a major stuff up? Can't remember.

I'm surprised the judge mentioned 'youth and geniuine remorse'. He has a history of not being trusted with money.

You have icons of adorable!

*gasp* And so do you! Your ratty reminds me of my first rat, who was an argente berkshire, so from the front looks very similar to yours.

That's Yoghurt. She was a dove hoodie. She was my last rat for the time being: I needed a break from short lifespans, so I went to the cat side of the force. It's very weird having a pet that doesn't climb down my shirt.

Forgive me...

Not the bit about him being youthful and a dick though.

I can link to news articles from the time:

There's a short summary under 'recent history' here:

[identity profile] mc-shamo.livejournal.com 2008-02-06 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Well....

There was a company called 'Melbourne University Student Union Incorporated' (MUSU). It was a union, and as such it was run by elected officers, and elections were run anually. In 2002 (correct me if I've got my dates wrong) there was a legal issue with the elections, and only a group called 'Real Students' could run for office - Darren Ray's mob. So, obviously they won.

They made some sweeping changes, and managed to ensure (mostly by way of very dirty politics) that they stayed in for the subsequent years. It's worth noting that this group of students changed the name of their party and re-branded themselves completely every year they ran in the elections (I kid you not). In 2002 they were 'Real Students' (who used to be called 'Student Alliance' in previous years by the way...) in 2003 it was something else, and then 2004 it was 'Go'.

Melbourne University Student Union Incorporated went into receivership in 2004. It was replaced by "Melbourne University Student Union Limited" - a new organisation that the University itself has executive control over.

And, let it be added, the supposedly-educated students who voted in the elections every year were stupid enough and/or didn't care enough to find out exactly who they were voting for.

This is why democracy doesn't work!

Hehe... awesome

Yay!!!

[identity profile] fnoo.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
His phone number is 0412 590 946 and is on his wikipedia user page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DarrenRay

Unlikely that he actually has access to it (I'm not sure how white collar crime works), but feel free to try to stick the boot in anyway.

Man, I wish I'd known that his phone number was up on wikipedia before he was arrested...

[identity profile] fnoo.livejournal.com 2008-02-07 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Of course even on wikipedia he's a fairly controversial figure, so it's entirely likely it's a fake #.

Try anyway.
