*Yawn*

Good God I need a coffee.

One more day, then it's pay day, and I can have a nice coffee.

Since that's a whole day away, I guess I'll have the instant that is here.

My contract has just been extended a month. Yay! That's actually quite convenient, because it means I finish work on the 22nd or so of September, and if they decide that that is all they want from me I can take the two days of the Tech and Dress Run for Lysistrata off, then start working again on the day of the preview. I might see if there is any part-time work for those two weeks, only working 4-5 hours a day while performing would be very tempting (or "temp-ing"! Ha! Cos I'm a temp! Getit? Get...I'm fired, aren't I?)

I got all excited night before last because I managed to sleep the whole night through. Unfortunately that was not the case last night, but I only woke up once, and it was early morning (5:40 a-fucking-m!), not middle of the night. I choose to take this as encouraging.

Coffee. Coffee, coffee coffee.

I think you might need a coffee. :P

Me, on the other hand, I need someone to give me a new fucking head. Or possibly just a new set of sinuses.

Oh dear, does that mean no gym tomorrow?

Something that makes me feel better when I've got a cold is Tom Yum (or Tom Khaa) soup. I give you my recipe if you like? Or you could just get it from a Thai place. The combination of chilli, lemongrass, garlic and lime is really awesome when you've a stuffy head and nose.

This is from memory...

[identity profile] mstakenidentity.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
1 stalk lemongrass
1/2 lt veggie stock
1/2 lt fish stock
1 lt water
1 hot red chili
5 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon chilli paste
handful of mushrooms (oyster, shitake, button, field, meh, not picky!)
1 can mixed stirfy veggies
5 fresh or 3 teaspoons canned/jarred kaffir lime leaves
lime juice
lemon juice
1 bok choy or pak choy
1 handful snowpeas
(optional) half dozen prawns
(optional) coconut milk, one can

Put stock and water in a pot, put pot over a low heat.
Cut up lemongrass into tiny, tiny pieces, 1mm think slices really. Bung them in a food processor or smush them with a mortar and pestle. Put resulting fragrant mess into pot. Simmer for 25 minutes, or one episode of The Simpsons.

Add crushed garlic, chilli, lime leaves, simmer a furthur 10 minutes. Top up with more stock and/or water if needed.

Bung in everything else except seafood, bok/pak choy and lemon/lime juice. Simmer a further ten minutes.

Five minutes before serving put in seafood and bok choy, add lemon/lime juice to taste.

Say hello to your sinuses.

if it's too spicy, add coconut milk.

Knew I forgot something! When adding seafood and bok choy, you can also add noodles if you want. I like udon noodles, which is mixing cultures a bit, I think most people use vermicelli or ramen.

Excellent! I shall write this down and possibly use it. Thanks! :)

BTw - I deleted my comment above because I noticed an abominable grammatical mistake, and I can't edit my replies! Yeah, I know, I'm weird.

Chris also wanted to add that she didn't mention cherry tomatoes. Cut in half, you add them along with the mushrooms and the rest of that schtuff.

I understand your coffee cravings! If I were there I would shout you a coffee. Alternatively, I offer this advice:

Buy a plunger. Buy some nice pre-ground coffee (if not from some gourmet cafe supplier, then from the supermarket. Many have fine fair trade options!).

Never go wanting again! No more instant! Huzzah!

And yes... you're fired :P

[identity profile] mstakenidentity.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
This is excellent advice, which I shall subscribe to as soon as I can afford a plunger, and am in a place that sells them. (Target and Big W would have them, right?)

Probably. As a matter of fact, we probably have a spare you can have (I think Michael has 3. I have taken 1, which still leaves 2 - ah-ha! See, biologists CAN do maths!).

Fortunately I'm working on Errol Street at the moment. Soooo much good coffee. :)

[identity profile] mstakenidentity.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
Quiet you ;-P

[identity profile] clappamungus.livejournal.com 2008-08-12 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but you also have to deal with the yuppiness that is Errol St - and $5 miniscule pastries.

I understand your pain, since I'm trying to stear clear of milk right now, and cannot and will not drink instant coffee at work without something like milk in it and am too cheap to bring my own soy milk in for it.
