Houses

I'm fighting this cold for one more day, tomorrow I have a day off work, and I can collapse in bed with all my textbooks and write my essay there. sure it's not ideal but it's what I have right now.

You know what my new favourite thing to do at work when on the phone is? Look at houses! I have to pay at least some attention when on the phone (I'm not talking, but I take notes on what the doctors say to each other), so can't do anything too engaging like read a book or write my essay. Instead I look at houses. I go to Domain.com.au and punch in the right price range and bedrooms and look around the inner north and west and I've come to the conclusion that very few people have good colour sense. Also that I have rather eclectic taste since I like this house (and I'm not quite sure why, and think it's too far out), and this house, which is completely different (and without a price, which means probably very much out of our price range, even in five years, this one is also nice and this house, which is completely different again (and needs some serious redoing in the kitchen at least).

I've always liked looking at houses, and now I have a (very thin) excuse to do so. Still, hopefully that means by the time we're actually ready to buy I'm an expert! Seriously, anyone looking to move, renting or buying, let me know because I'm happy to do the online browsing.

Have finally tracked down what went wrong with my pay, and am now definitely being paid on Friday. I guess in a way it's good, it gives me less time in between pay cycles and hopefully more to save, and at least being paid on Friday means I can go bra shopping in the morning on Saturday, as I'm quickly becoming accustomed to this feeling comfortable and not-squished thing. :-) Yay, bright side!

Did [livejournal.com profile] aslan42 ever show you the photos we took of our house before we repainted?

It's like they watched TV one night, saw some home improvement show on feature walls and decided that every wall deserved to be a feature wall with a different colour.

Agreed, 'people' don't but then its not an innate skill for most people, its a learned one, that has to be applied with thought wherever possible. That's hard.

My mother has no colour sense whatsoever, which was/still is frustrating when we talking about clothing or makeup or yarn. Most sales people that I talk to in fashion stores wouldn't know the difference between a warm red and a cool red tone if they tried. I ask in every shop, when I see a preponderence of warm tones where the cool tones are and get blank stares, or pointed at a blue item, which is still a warm tone! Gah!

I've got about five books on colour mixes, I had my 'colours done' when I was in my early twenties, and seriously it was a godsend for getting clothing right.

[livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo's Mum's house is like that, but she has an amazingly good sense of colour (what with being an artist and all) and makes it look fantastic. Not recommending it for amateurs though! (and it sounds like the last owners of your place were) Think if I ever wanted to do something like that I'd make sure to have Seamus' Mum on hand.

Where are you shopping for bras? The Berlei outlets at bridge road and at Essendon DFO are really good.

Hey, that's a good idea, especially since I have to get to work at Essendon Airport after, thanks!

*nods* I love looking at houses, too. (And usually end up moaning about the fact that, if I were willing to move to Ballarat or Bendigo, I'd do wonderfully.)

I really prefer the ads with floor plans, though. So much easier to get a feel for the place then.

If you were really bored... I'm wondering how much I need to pay for a two bedroom place within 15 mins walk of a railway station (preferably Craigieburn line but flexible) within 8km of the city. Haven't made the apartment v house decision yet - depends on prices.

Also... if it's going to be more than $410K then it's not going to happen. Hoping for mid threes if I can possibly manage it.

But only if you're bored. V unlikely that I'm buying this year.

Have sent you an email!

Ah the days of house-browsing. I used to do it obsessively, especially when the new copies of the Melbourne Times came round. Now, however, I doubt I'll be able to afford one until I'm well into my thirties. This is a pity - I'm sick of giving me money to other people to be allowed to live in their less-than-perfect places. Oh well. Hope you have far more luck than I did!

Secretly glad you're not using our shitty website :)

I took your advice.

I saw someone at work on your website and told them your thoughts, they said domain was too complicated and they preferred yours *shrug* Maybe it's an age thing.
