It took me about a minute. Only because I'm still hungover. ;)

By the way, you left your coat and (I think) your gloves at our place.

Ah, right, not my gloves but possibly my scarf?

I left them behind because last night I was what [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo affectionately called a "drunky monkey" The lad was nice enough to wake me when he left for work with a kiss, a pint of water and a tube of Berocca, and it was while consuming these I decided to pit my wits against the puzzle book. (The Vanishing Village if you're interested!)

I think I have that one! I loved those books.

OMG! I've got that book floating around somewhere, too!

Cha has a couple of them, I made sure they were kidnapped from Castlemaine so I could play with them again. Later codes are genuinely difficult to crack in some of the advanced ones.

"a kiss, a pint of water and"

It comes in pints???????

:)

Also, very easy. But I was expecting a "hard toty peon ipho newh enhu ngov er" punchline...

I actually was about to give up and decided it was too cryptic for me when I spotted dchil dren and thought "children is an odd combination of letters to come up accidentally".

Pretty easy, but only because enough is recognisable as English, even with the shifted spaces. It would be a cow if you shifted the letters as well as breaking the words into groups of four.
