I finished work yesterday at 8am. I was feeling quite awake and hungry, and I knew [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo had the day off, so I rang him and arranged to meet him at Verb (our local awesome cafe) for breakfast. I was slightly late, due to coming out to the carpark to find our car completely iced over. Good Lord it was cold!

After a very yummy breakfast and a long nap we headed out grocery shopping. I had a craving for Tom Kha and chicken satay, so we hit KFL on Racecourse road, a big Asian supermarket. Unfortunately they were fresh out of fake chicken (I refuse to buy non-freerange chicken but alas can not often afford it- so fake chicken is the go) so we wandered over to Safeway where we ran in to [livejournal.com profile] mousebane and Will and were able to point them in the direction of KFL, which they had not known was there. We also got fake chicken, woot!

Once home I chucked the stock, water, lemongrass, chilli, lime leaves, garlic, ginger and galangal in a pot and let it boil up to make the tom kha broth while I curled up with Nemesis, the new Lindsay Davis noval (I finished it this morning, unlike the last two it's actually very good but very dark).

After soup we headed out to the Incinerator Art Complex to see a play called Black Face White Mask, it was an amazing experience. Written by an Englishman and a Vietnamese man working very closely for over a year with a group of about a dozen local youths, mostly African, one white, one Afgani, and one I think Italian or Greek. It was about growing up black in Australia, Melbourne in particular (most of the action was set around the Flemington flats). It was well written, though it did kind of peter out at the end. It was also incredibly funny, and the young people in it were obviously very invested in it. I really hope they get a chance to put it on again. I think with a bit of polishing it would make a great Fringe show.

We got home, had the satay and polished of an amazing chocolate tart of awesome each, then after a day of not-much I was so exhausted I went straight to bed and slept through until 7:30am this morning.

This morning I was treated to pancakes a la [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo before he had to go to work. I then attacked the pile of detritus that is our computer desk. It took a very long time, some impromptu filing, a hunt through the recycling for tin cans able to become pen holders, some serious dusting and scrubbing and two episodes of Miss Marple on youtube (so conveniant when working on the computer desk!) and we now have a desk so clean and clear you could eat off it if you were so inclined. I finished up with a satisfied sigh, looked at the time and swore likea trooper as I hurled myself in the shower, through the bedroom for clothes and kitchen for food and out the door to get to work.

So far tonight has been pretty quite, the strong wind means we can only fly south, and as Melbourne is basically at the southern edge of mainland Australia this is not terribly helpful. However, apparently if we did have to go to Tasmania we'd get there really really fast.

So, all you Victorians on my flist, take care of yourself tonight!

Yesterday was awesome.

Woke up earlyish for a non-work day, hit the shower, shovelled some bircher museli down the gullet and walked down Macaulay Road to meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster for coffee at Elevenses.

These days when I say I'm meeting someone for coffee what I actually mean is "generic non-alcoholic beverage- usually warm" becaue for some reason coffe these days makes me feel ill. So I sat with my pot of tea and Kate had her coffee and we chatted for an hour or so until [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo came down and picked me up. We made a quick stop for supplies at SAfeway then headed to the zoo.

The last time I went to Melbourne Zoo the animals were still in the little cages. I was really really glad to see them in proper sized enclosures that mimicked their habitats in the wild. I think my favourites were the orang-utans, though the gorillas were also pretty cool. Since it was such a warm day most of the animals were keeping cool by sleeping in the shade. The Canadian brown bear looked like he was having a good time. He'd got into the water in his enclosure and was swimming about, throwing himself on his back over and over. Oh! And a meer cat tried to dig his way to freedom, but was stopped by concrete once he hit the side on his enclosure. We picnicked near the carosul and watched the penguins playing.

We had a look at the zoo's Sustainability information and discovered you can actually buy... well... they've politely called it "Zoo-Gro" but I think it's probably better known by the name we gave it of "Zoo Poo." We bought a large bag of it for a our front lawn, soil enriched with pygmy hippo and monkey poo here we come, exotic!

When we left I still had a bit over an hour before I had to be anywhere, and we were both flagging a bit, so we decided to continue with the animal theme and have coffee at Animal Orchestra near uni, then we walked to Lygon court so I could check out the new EcoWear shop. I was very restrained (mainly cos I'm broke) and walked out only with a pair of fisherman's pants and a cotton bag to put them in. Definitely saw somethings I want when I'm more flush with cash though!

Seamus dropped me off in the city where I met up with [livejournal.com profile] cows_might_fly to do some of the last minute shopping for her wedding and generally catch up, which was stacks of fun. We caught the tram together and then I walked the rest of the way home. Seamus texted to ask if I was still in the city since he and [livejournal.com profile] rin_tin_tin_ were there for rock climbing and wanted to say hi, but as I was ten minutes from home I declined.

Since he is awesome Seamus had set dinner marinating before he'd left in the morning, so all I had to do was bung it in the oven and collapse infront of the television for an hour (Glee- I'm hardly ever home when it's on, but if I am it's enjoyable trash). I decided to have a bath to soothe my muscles (the day before I'd done spin and balance at the gym, then I'd walked about 6 hours all up including the zoo and the city) with lavender and bath salts. Yum.

Seamus came home while I was in the bath, ate his dinner, then suggested we go out and get some Mountain Goat and drink it in the backyard since the weather was so nice. I thought this sounded great, so put off gaoing to bed in order to do it.

When we'd sat ourselves down in the backyard we heard plaintative whinging mewing from inside. So I got up, got Loki's harness and leash and let him come out for an explore. Puck hates the harness and freaks out when it's put on him, so he doesn't come outside at all, but Loki doesn't mind it, I think his curiosity overrides any discomfort!

It was such a nice, relaxing day, without being a bludge day physically. The original plan was to go to Healesville Sanctuary, then I wrecked the car and we had to opt for a slightly more frugal microbreak, but I don't think the day could have been any more perfect any other way.

On Friday I was too sick to go to work. I staid home apart from when I was dragged out for food by the ever patient [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo and from when I saw a doctor. I was given a medical certificate and a script. Woot! I piked on Sam's play, on the reasoning that if I got worse walking out would be a distraction, and i wouldn't be able to concentrate, and I went to the very relaxed and laid back MUCAAS pub for Rusty the car and sat not saying much to anyone but profoundly grateful for the good company. Goodbye Rusty, I enjoyed the rides :-)

Saturday I still felt rotten. I had to pike on going out with [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo to the Fringe Festival awards night. By the afternoon I felt so bloody rotten I rang the doctors to see what I should do since they were closed. I then found out something very useful to know; outside normal working hours there is a locum doc in the area who makes house calls if you produce your medicare card. Fucking score!

So instead of spending my Saturday night in a hospital emergency room waiting area I sat in comfort in my own lounge room with [livejournal.com profile] cows_might_fly and [livejournal.com profile] clappamungus (and later [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster and [livejournal.com profile] fnoo) and ate Mexican take-away and watched Press Gang until a very nice young doctor turned up at my door to treat me. Awesome! He gave me peregnisolone (sp?), a steroid I've been given before that works like magic on my lungs. Unfortunately by the time he got here it was quite late (which was fair enough, as with me asthma attacks are usually not too dangerous as long as I don't try to move, so I was happy to sit and gently wheeze a few hours while the doctor dealt with more urgent patients) so the steroids kept me awake until about 2am. Ah well, that's what Saturday nights are for eh?

I woke this morning around 11am and felt a million, trillion times better. I love steroids, they're awesome :-D
I texted [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster on the off chance she and [livejournal.com profile] fnoo felt like brunch since [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo was going out with his father. They did, so we had brunch at Kitchen on Racecourse rd, which was great as it's one of my favourite places and I got to introduce it to Michael and Kate. We then went to the chemist so Michael could get stuff and I could get more precious, precious steroids. While there Kate and I found a large and thorough Elizabeth Arden make-up kit in colours that suited both of us, since our colouring is so similar. Now most of my make up falls into the following categories: Old and Crappy, Cheap and Crappy, Old and Cheap and Crappy, and finally, Stage Make-up. Therefore I was interested. I then noticed three things:
1. The kit had originally been $210, and was marked down to $49 (I assume because the colours are no longer in fashion, darling)
2. I had $49
3. I was now in possession of a plastic bag with the makeup kit in it and no longer in possession of that specific $49.
Funnily enough the same thing happened to Kate...

We drove to Northcote and met up with [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo had a drink in the social club, then went for a walk before the Guild League gig. We found a funky clothes shop. I found a dress I liked but thought would be too small, I decided that my self esteem and body image etc. were in good enough shape to take the hit if it turned out the dress was indeed too small and tried it on. I felt it was too tight across my hips and bum, however when I exited the change room to get a better view in the mirror (there was a mirror in the change room but the change room was a bit dark) I was told in no uncertain terms by Seamus, Michael and Kate to buy the dress. I think my confidence will have to be high the first time I wear it, it's very tight and completely backless, the back starts at just above where the waistband of hipster jeans would start.

We then went back for the gig, and Michael and I managed to not squeal when we were served at the merchandise table by Tali White. I got a Guild League Singlet anf badge, I'd picked up the album on the way in.

The gig was very, very awesome, and I really like the album. Yay Guild League! Yay album launch!

After the gig Seamus and I went to Fitzroy and had dinner at The Veggie Bar with my parents and brother, which was actually quite pleasant.

I would like it on record that I am extremely grateful for the no smoking laws, as otherwise with my health being what it is I would not have been able to do most of the things I did today was there still smoking in restaurants, pubs and venues.

So, from what started as a rather woebegone weekend I am now happy, calm and feeling a lot better. This is due in no small part to my wonderful friends and boyfriend.

Happysigh.

I had a weekend, it was fun.

On Friday night we had a small bunch of people over to eat dinner and watch Press Gang while comsuming junk food. It was cosy. Loki came out and played with [livejournal.com profile] fnoo and then curled up under the coffee table, seemingly content to be in the room with six people as long as we weren't moving about too much.

On Saturday [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo and I had a lovely breakfast outside at Hot Poppy, then made out way leisurely through the Queen Vic Markets. [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo bought cacti (yes [livejournal.com profile] impostinator, from the same bloke we bought cacti from all those years ago!) and a kitty leash, and some no-scratch spray for Loki, I bought a rather fetching beret and four cheeses from the deli (including stilton, yum!). We also got seafood, I braved the meat part of the market, I felt quite proud, and a bit sick.

We got home and put away our purchases and I headed out again for the gym, which took up a few hours, then came home through the cold and rain and decided a hot bath would be just the thing, with Radox Muscle Soak and Epsom salts. It was fantastic. I spent the next hour and a bit slowly getting ready to go out, then decided to test if I could walk from our house to the station in high heels. I can.

I met up with [livejournal.com profile] fin and we had dinner before heading over to the Regent Theatre for Wicked, which was better than I expected and grew on me, though I still don't see why there is such a huge fuss. I did enjoy it, and the hot chocolates we had after, and was very grateful when [livejournal.com profile] fin went completely out of his way to walk me to the tram and get me safely on it. I do not like Melbourne after midnight on a Saturday, I don't like feeling afraid to walk on my own, it makes me mad.

Unfortunately by the time the train got to my stop it was pouring again, and it's a ten minute walk usually home from there, it's fifteen in the shoes I was wearing, I'm glad I was wearing my long leather coat or I would have been soaked to the skin by the time I reached home. As it is I have a sniffle, but no worse ill effects.

[livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo and I went out for breakfast again the next morning, and I was punished for my decadence in having two breakfasts out in a row by the fact that one of the eggs served to me was off, and I didn't realise til I'd put it in my mouth and bit down. Ew. Ew. Ew. My God, it tasted revolting.

[livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo went out with his Dad and I finally attacked the study (it still had boxes from when we moved in) It is now tidy. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] insomnius, the job was made a lot less boring by all the Daria you gave me which is now on the computer in the study. I also cleaned and scrubbed the bathroom and both toilets and when Seamus got home he swept, vacuumed and mopped.

I fiddled around downstairs and got the place looking quite nice, then my parents came over to have a look at it and take us out for dinner. They really liked it, which made me happy, especially I was glad they didn't mind that we'd taken down a shelf, and I don't tink they even noticed the stair-rail was gone (for those playing along at home, my parents are our landlords).

We had dinner at a restaurant called Mexicali Cantina. It's run by the same people who run Mexicali Rose in Richmond and is just as nice. It was a pity they were understaffed, but everywhere I ate this weekend seems to have been understaffed. I wonder if it's that people can't afford to work as waiters anymore because they don't get paid enough to live, or if the cost of wages is too high for businesses? It's interesting, and disturbing (and- completely selfishly- means shoddy service because the staff that are there are overworked and frantic)

So yes, all up, a great weekend. It was very relaxing, lots of friends and family and boyfriend and kitten.

I'm doing ok :-)

So, here I am, in the study, staying awake! Yup, no falling back asleep for me! I'm going to sit here with my coffee and look at jobs until 9am, when I will start getting dressed and head over to the gym to meet [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster by 9:30 for a work-out. Because I am disciplined, yesiree.

Yawn.

The past few days have been pleasant apart from what I now think was a bout of hayfever yesterday. Sunday I went to the cinema and saw Enchanted which was a lot of fun, I wasn't going to bother with it as I thought it was just another Disney romantic comedy, but then heard good things about it from [livejournal.com profile] vox_diabolica and [livejournal.com profile] jpom40 and [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo wanted to see it, so I decided to give it a go. I'm glad I did, it was good value. We went Gold Class at Crown, which was awesomely awesome. The cheese platter was great, my coke came in a glass and [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo called me short because the seats were so big and comfy my feet didn't touch the ground.

Monday I worked in the morning, then saw my psych in the evening. He commented that I seemed much more relaxed and vibrant, this can only be a good thing!

Tuesday I went to the Queen Vic Markets with [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster and after i'd done the boring fruit and veggie shopping we had fun poking about, looking at clothes and leather stuff and watches. I only bought one top, and it was off the $5 rack, this is pretty good for me at the moment. Due to being a miser all last year, and quite frugal for a few years before that, I had gotten to the point where if I didn't buy new clothes and accessories the ones I had were going to disintergrate. I think I've spent about $300 since Christmas, which is a lot for me. Still, I've bought jeans, sandals, two casual tops, one nice top, a leather wallet, a red leather handbag (which is my current favourite thing), socks, gym shorts and tracksuit pants. My parents also gave me a new set of runners. Hopefully all this means I won't need to buy anything for a while! (Except a skirt, if I can find a mid length skirt that is not full of ugly and would be suitable for work as well as casual wear my wardrobe will be complete!)

Yesterday I spent feeling headachey, generally achey and sleepy :-( I think it may have been hayfever and possibly over-doing it at the gym the night before (I think we stayed for 2&1/2 hours all up). still I feel much better today!

Wish I could hide at home today instead of going out in the heat, but my Dad asked me to have lunch with him in the city. It's been a very long time since he wanted to just see me on my own without my brother, and I don't think I'm allowed to resent being lumped in with my brother all the time if I turn down my first opportunity to see my father on my own that I've had for a year or so, am I?

Besides, afterwards I can go to the lovely air-conditioned DFO at Spencer st and look at skirts...
mstakenidentity: (Default)
I am at work. It was very boring until 9pm when the supervisor left and I was able to crack out my book.

The last few days have been fun, Boxing Day I braved the sales and bought new socks, new jeans, two new tops, new gym shorts ([livejournal.com profile] fin? Remember those navy shorts you gave me? I've been using them as gym shorts for ages, and as painting short, and wearing around the house shorts, and walking to the cafe shorts...) and new flat leather sandals that are appropriate for work. Since I've been running out of clothes that fit and are not ripped/stained/faded I'm very happy with my purchases. In the evening [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo came with me to see The Golden Compass Very quick evaluation, contains Spoilers )

Thursday morning I worked, then went to visit the kittens, who were very very cute for the few seconds during which they stopped hiding under the fridge.

Friday I went with [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo, his mum, uncle and grandmother out to Bayswater for their big family Christmas thing. It was fun, his family can cook (funny that). It was nice seeing small children running around at Christmas, with one exception my cousins are now too big, they prefer sitting in the playroom and watching dvds. We didn't get home until after 8pm. I sat and watched American Dad with my brother while [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo played Lord of the Rings.

Today we got up early enough to beat the heat (a bit, sort of, as much as possible) and had breakfast at Lomah's (by the way, any of you ever in the Union Rd type area, go to Lomah's, it's pretty cool) we came back and got cracking on some serious lounging. I actually fell asleep with my nose in my book until I was abruptly awoken by [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo's phone. After some lunch and more lounging we went to the gym where we met [livejournal.com profile] vivienne_aster and all felt rather unfit (Damn you, Christmas!). Kate very kidly drove to Newmarket where I got some dinner from the supermarket, then got on a train and came in to work. Where I am now. Typing this. I'm bored.

Tomorrow there shall be yoga, then two meals out as [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo's dad has claimed lunch and my parents have claimed dinner. Then Monday I'm working a full day then coming home and helping [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo set up for the MUCAAS New Years party, then forgetting everything about being a good host as soon as the first guests arrive and I have a beer in my hand (at least, that is what usually happens when I help with parties). On Tuesday I have a day filled with...nothing. Nothing nothing nothing. No family stuff, no work, no errands or shopping...nothing. I'll probably read, play with the internet, try to get my half of the bedroom into some sort of order, if my brother has it back of my cousin watch Scrubs... it sounds very, very nice. :-D

Anyone feel like a shopping adventure today? Or a catch-up coffee? Give me a text if this appeals.

Plan for today:
-Wait until shop down the road opens (I think 10am) and buy that thing I need.
-Bring it back to [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo's
-Go to major place of shopping (whether cbd or highpoint or other depends if anyone wants to meet up with me!)
-Buy things I want for Chris and [livejournal.com profile] impostinator's wedding tomorrow (petticoat if can find, panty-hose, replenish make-up supply)
-Bring these things back to [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo's, change into gym stuff
-Gym gym gym! Alas, probably still just swimming as my ankle is still cantankerous
-Change into nicer clothes, go to the rehearsal for wedding
-Meet [livejournal.com profile] mc_shamo, [livejournal.com profile] princesslaurene and [livejournal.com profile] lowfyr at Her Majesty's Theatre
-See Spamalot!

Busy day, full of awesome! :-D
