I have a sore throat, I suspect I also have a temperature.

My methods of controlling these have up til now included lemon and honey drinks, strepsils and tom yum soup.

Anyone got any advice? I'm still getting sicker and can't see a doc til Tuesday, also have to be at work tomorrow.

In other news, 1620 words in to a 2000 word essay, go me!

Panadol will bring a fever down if you have one. You could also try a lukewarm - not cold - bath, although from my experience, fevers make the skin more sensitive and any water hurts like hell. *hugs* and much sympathy, I hope you're feeling better long before Tuesday! (wow, I went for 'Tuesday' and my fingers typed 'Turd'. WTF?)

Ditto on the paracetamol - your body will be able to better fight it off if your temperature is down.

Purely for the purpose of getting through work I also recommend cold and flu tablets but I'd time the dose so you spend the minimum time doped up on pseudoephedrine.

My grandpa always swore by a shot of whiskey (or other such alcohol) and I have tried once when I had an exam. For the duration of the exam I felt fine, I got home and felt like death. For extreme circumstances only!
Ginger tea with honey and lemon is also good.

+1 for ginger, fresh only. The anti-inflammatory properties found in fresh ginger should make you feel a bit better. Depending on how sceptical you are about natural remedies, there are supposedly other benefits too.

My mother always swore by salt water gargles. They never worked for me. I eventually learned about betadine gargles. They work well.

If you like, take a bath with eucalyptus oil for the cold, and if by some chance you happen to have rosemary oil, that's good for the fever.

Paracetamol for the temperature. And plenty of water.

For the throat, um, I haven't tried this, but someone I used to work with absolutely swore by gargling with Aspro Clear. Difflam (lozenges that have some kind of magical numbing mojo) is good too, for certain kinds of sore throats anyway (they never could compete with my tonsilitis though).

Oh, and red wine always helps me, but I suppose that doesn't really help when you need to go to work...
