I've been thinking about what to do with the portion of the Rudd money not being sent on Loki's vet bill and have decided I like the idea of having a corset custom-made (thus providing employment while stimulating the economy *sanctimonious nod*)

I've looked on the net and all I can find is corset makers in Sydney, and while I'm sure they're wonderful I doubt I'll be leaving the state anytime soon. I'm loath to buy a corset online, I want to be able to touch it and feel it and try it on before handing the money over.

I'm sure there are people on my flist who would know, where does one go in Melbourne if one wishes to have a corset made to measure? And do any of them have websites I can look at?

Cheers!

Vic Gothic do custom made, I believe.

VIcious Venus might have something you like, but I don't know if they do custom made.

I don't know about their quality, but I thought Vicious Venus did some 'custom' corsetry, however I'm not sure if it is real bespoke (as distinct from made-to-measure) corsetry or not.

Also the internet gave Marquis de Sade, this company that are somewhere in the Eastern suburbs, Victorian Gothic in Fitzroy, and one that I can only find a PO Box for is Hedonia, and no idea if they're still around.

(Hedonia, P.O. Box 1295, Fitzroy North, Victoria, Australia 3068 Tel: 0414 061 590)

Can't vouch for the quality of any of their corsets, or their custom work, though. Sorry.

Still looking...

Another one, with a dodgy website and a PO Box address is Tinkervamp. On their un-updated website from 2008, their e-mail is still sales@tinkervamp.com.au though.

Lucrezia and De Sade in Fitzroy last time I was there didn't have much corsetry, but struck me as the sort of shop where if you asked, they probably would know.

Forgot... Assassinus who really sounds like someone I should know, but don't. (And looks like he makes custom corsets out of metal instead of any of that wussy metal boned fabric stuff!)

A lot of online places will make and send a mock-up and fabric samples to you, so that might be worth considering. That said, most of the places I know are in the US, so that would suck iwth the exchange rate.

Mortisha's does custom made. I know very little about their corsetry, but a friend has a dress from there.

Oooh, usefulness! I've been thinking about this for a while as well, but didn't really know where to look...

When I bought a vicious Venus corset it cost around $500 about 5 years ago(plus around $50-$75 extra for custom made), whereas the ones from Gallery Serpentine (like mine)cost $250-$300 (not sure about custom prices). If you ever had the time (yeah right) you could fly to Sydney on cheap flights for less than the $200 difference! I am going to Sydney for easter and would be happy to go to their shop and photograph things and ask them questions/gibe them your measurements if you'd like. They also have measurements/sizing info on their website and pictures of the different styles and fabrics. I know what you mean that it's not the same as touching it and trying it on though.

Oh one more thing. I found Gallery Serpentine to have a much better range than anywhere I have seen in Melbourne. They have styles to fit different body shapes and even have male corsets! So if you can't find a good custom place in Melbourne and have to resort to buying online thay should have something that would fit.
